Meet Dr. Emma
Dr. Emma Stewart is a passionate physical therapist from Centreville, VA, a suburb of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. From a young age, she was deeply involved in a variety of sports, including soccer, volleyball, and swimming. The injuries that came with these activities led her to frequent physical therapy sessions, which sparked her interest in rehabilitation and inspired her to pursue a career helping athletes recover and return to peak performance.
Dr. Emma earned her B.S. in Kinesiology with a minor in Coaching Education from James Madison University. She then went on to complete her Doctorate in Physical Therapy at Emory University, where she expanded her knowledge by taking elective courses in dry needling, sports physical therapy, and strength and conditioning.
After graduating from Emory, Dr. Emma began working in outpatient physical therapy, where she gained extensive experience in treating a wide range of patients. During her first year, she completed an Orthopedic Residency with the Upstream Rehabilitation Institute and became a Board-Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 2019.
Dr. Emma employs a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation, integrating manual therapy techniques such as dry needling, joint manipulation, and muscle energy techniques with personalized exercise programming. Her goal is to help her patients not only recover from injury but also exceed their physical potential and reach new heights in performance.
Over her 7 years of clinical experience, Dr. Emma has had the privilege of working with athletes of all types—ranging from NFL players and competitive CrossFit athletes to stunt performers and recreational athletes of all ages. Through this diverse experience, she has seen firsthand the profound impact that physical therapy can have, not only in injury rehabilitation but also in maintaining long-term health and unlocking an athlete’s full potential.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Emma is a devoted competitive CrossFit athlete and spends much of her time training and coaching in the gym. She also enjoys attending concerts—especially country music shows—exploring new restaurants with friends, and relaxing at home with her dog, Xena, while binge-watching her latest Netflix series.
